I'm a professional animal/wildlife artist specializing in acrylic paintings and life-like gourd sculpture. My preferred style is whimsical photo-realism, everything you see in my gallery are artworks. *** I DO NOT UPLOAD PHOTOGRAPHS (it prevents confusion ;))*** I accept commissions so you can have a special artwork that can be enjoyed for generations. I only use the highest quality paints and surfaces. Along with acrylics I also use colored pencil, graphite, and ink. Check out my website and Gourd Blogs!

Hi everyone! Just updating my journal with randomness.

What I'm up to: Sculpting random gourd things for a local one-woman show in September (in Asheboro, NC). I've been posting my works on Facebook and Instagram mostly, and then adding them here when I get the chance too. Not everything will make it on here, but I'll be posting highlights.

If you have suggestions on what you'd like to see me make, feel free to comment!
Recently completed or getting ready to make gourdies: fish, octopus, jellyfish, dragons, owls, mushrooms, tree, crane, frogs, robots, yeti, turtles, flowers - and more to come!

Artsy plans: More sculpting, some instructional teaching on gourd sculpture, shows, etc. I plan on illustrating more than painting animal portraiture in the future. ^_^ I like illustrating whimsically more now.
Event list:
*April 16th, Ghost Creek SC Gourd Show
*May 7th-8th, Kiln Opening in Randleman NC with Joseph Sands
*Last weekend in May, visiting Cherokee Gourd Festival
*August 18-20, Cedar Mountain NC Gourd Gathering
*November, PCI Fine Arts Festival (winston-salem NC), maybe Roy's Folks (High Point NC)
More to be determined. I never have anything to do during the summer. XD I'll make more art instead.

So dat's it, toodle-loo and have a great day!

Would you be able to do a custom classic sculpture or gourd sculpture of my papillon?

^_^ Yep I sure can! They're such cute pups! What size would you like it? I can do miniature (3" or less) up to life-sized.

I suppose that decision would have a lot to do with pricing. Do you do any custom work under $100? If not that's fine, I'll just have to save more.

Yes I do, miniatures are $45. Mediums that are around 5-7" range from $80-100+

Your gallery is downright magical. I think I learn a lot just from looking at your work. Amazing.

I appreciate that and I will definitely take you up on that. My biggest questions relate to the process and the ability to focus. I tend to start adding detail before I get the values and shapes in the right places, which thus makes the piece look warped or amateurish. While I concentrate on digital art, the process for painting is still the same, as far as I know. And any advice on how to stay focused? I tend to work for about an hour or so before I get distracted (or bored, honestly). I've read about how one artist will literally disconnect his internet in order to help remove distraction. I may try that. But any other advice?
