Running your own business entails many things an artist doesn't want to do. When I want to paint, I must check messages. I have to manage advertising, ship packages, maintain supplies and contacts. But all I want to do is paint. So I'll admit that I'm not great in the aspect of business. In trying to manage everything by myself I've become fond of a very simple business object - cardboard boxes. When you have to ship things, you tend to recycle and collect them. There's a lot of character to cardboard. It wrinkles easily, has a nice matte texture with tape patterns and sticky labels. They can fold and make curious lines and shadows. And once in a while, along comes a cat to remind you not to be so serious. You just thought you were going to use that box. Sorry, Sofie has claimed it now. Well atleast that's one less thing off my mind.
***This a test, I will repaint it larger eventually. That's why it may look grainy or not as detailed, because this painting is small***
"Cardboard Queen" 5x7" acrylic on wood. (C) Cara Bevan 2013
Are you kidding?! When I saw it in thumb, I thought that at least this one was a photo. I thought that maybe you just took it to immortalize one of your kitties cuddled on it in some spare moment. The details are wonderful! Oh the beauty to be found in the simplest of things indeed..
The painting process is only one part of the job, of course. You'd have to employ somebody to do all the unpleasant things for you, but then you'd have less money for yourself... After all, you have full control over your work now.
I like this painting a lot the way it is now, I love the grainy texture! In my opinion, you don't have to repaint it.
Yes, all that marketing is not fun but somebody has to do it...well I guess forcing yourself to do it makes you that much more wiser. Why not experience all the not-so-fun stuff of business.
I wasn't going to repaint it, I'm keeping this little painting as is. I was thinking of painting it again, on a larger scale! If only because I can...and I like boxes.
I thought this was a picture...
even that sticker looks like the real thing, so many details...

That's what I meant. I think you don't have to paint a bigger version, since I already like this small one so much!
