Dinosaur Logo by ART-fromthe-HEART Dinosaur Logo by ART-fromthe-HEART
I'm still on a dinosaur kick, so here's a new logo I did for my returning clients. They have plans to open a large dinosaur park and museum, and I'm happy to be on board helping design things! This piece was a lot of fun. More little details, LOL! ;D

This is really nice. Too bad your clients forced you to do Jurassic Park clones :(

Yeah... it's still currently the most "recognized" look of dinos. Even though research says otherwise, that they were covered with a simplistic type of feather... the feather look is still not "mainstream" yet. oh well...

Nice!  I like your attention to detail, including your addition of specular reflections in their eyes.

I noticed that your lighting tends to be of the diffuse, "light-box" or "umbrella diffuser" (to borrow from my photography background) style.  Have you experimented with "dramatic lighting," where shadows and/or point-source lighting are emphasized?  As an example, I'm thinking of this one:  fav.me/d6rhawh

Thanks! :D

Yeah that's my standard type of lighting I do. For a logo, dramatic lighting would have been a distraction from the main focus. But I have painted strong and directed lighting before, like this one: art-fromthe-heart.deviantart.c… That artwork you linked is epic!

The past couple of years I've focused on sculpting, so I haven't done many dynamic pieces. :shrug*

I agree with your reasons for using diffuse lighting for a logo.  The reason that linked artwork caught my eye is it has a dramatic eye-catching quality you'd expect on a book cover.  Which, of course, got me thinking.....

Thinking? ;) Dangerous! LOL, kidding. I'd love to try some dramatic lightning in artwork sometime. :D

How close do you think you could emulate the style in that "dragon mage" painting?  And by "style," I think what I'm referring to is his apparent lack of visible brush strokes in the foreground subject.  Of course, it's also 2:00am, I've spent three days eating Refried Beans as I refine/perfect my recipe for canning them into quart jars, and so I'm probably not adequately cognitizing, let alone describing, what I'm trying to convey.

It's just that painting's "style," however imprecisely I'm cognitizing "it," is what I'd like to see for my novel's frontispiece/cover.  I have no doubt you could achieve it, but first I have to figure out what "it" is I want.

Sorry.  I've been farting every five minutes or so from all the beans I've eaten today.  Ugh.

The lack of brushstrokes is because it's digital art, and with digital that is easy. :) I'm proficient with digital art now, as good as my traditional. So that can be done!

LOL oops! Better out than in as they say!... good thing there's not smell-o-net. ;)

Cool!  Let me think of something to commission (besides the satyr, which I still need to return to), and then we'll go from there.

And yes, thank God there's no smell-o-net!  :)
