I WAS going to enter this into the Prismacolor official contest but it turns out that you may have to give the people the rights AND original if you win. NO WAY in hell am I going to do that! SOOO, I get to keep it. ENJOY! :D

If you live near open land you may be blessed by the night symphony of frogs and crickets. This important music has inspired “Heart of the Symphony.” Of all the wonderful summer night sounds, the frog is the heart of it all. They have been for a long time – nearly 200 million years! Their songs are a chorus of unique, soothing melodies. When winter comes, it’s sad to hear them stop. If you don’t hear their music on summer nights, even with land for them to live on, then there’s a problem. It’s a recently discovered fact that frogs are strong indicators of healthy land. Like a canary in a coal mine, they are sensitive to an unbalanced environment and will leave if something is wrong. If you use pesticides to keep your grass ‘healthy’ and free of pesky bugs then everything else dies too. The frogs, and invertebrates they prey upon like mosquitoes, slugs, and snails, are partially responsible for healthy ground. If they leave, often times the wellbeing of the land isn’t far behind. What is more important – beautiful grass pumped with toxins and poisons or a song that has withstood the test of time? The frog’s ancient melody is one to be cherished. Just think, the dinosaurs could have heard the frog’s tunes too! If we let the heart of the symphony stay, we will be blessed with great health and a sonata that no human can reproduce.

“Heart of the Symphony” 14x10” colored pencil on Britsol Board.

This piece, as a whole, speaks volumes about the thought that was put into its creation. The details in this piece are spectacular and really shows what you can do with the medium. The colors of the frog and the piano are quite harmonious and help to unify the piece to that there are not a bunch of scattered elements throughout it. You show superb skill in depicting light on a dark body, such as the frog's.
While the background is traditionally out of focus, I think this one could benefit from a little more definition and should perhaps not look as fuzzy as it currently does.

Wow, I am blown away by this one! You know how fond I am of frogs :D When I saw this in my box I thought you had picked up photography, ha ha.

The textures in this piece are just fantastic-- each little bump on the frog's skin is so well defined and the wood of the piano looks smooth and rich.

The piece has a kind of surreal quality, because of the perspective I get the feeling that this is a giant frog and not a tiny piano, ha ha. Great work with the focus as well, I like the way it fades in the background.

All that being said, I think this is one of your best pieces! Right up there with the rooster portraits in its skill and level of detail. It's a real shame you couldn't enter this in the contest, I know it would have won!

(Just curious--did you use Bristol vellum or smooth?)

Are you kidding me? I didn't click on this at first because I thought it WAS a photograph. Absolutely incredible the amount of detail you've put into here; it's hard to believe it's not a photograph.

And coloured pencil, no less. My goodness.

I have no critique; honestly, I'm just shocked that you're producing art of this magnitude. .. Please don't let it get to your head; you're such a kind person! :)

Incredibly lovely. Congrats.

What was the prize for the contest? You almost certainly would have been one of the winners unless the competition was unbelievably fierce.

Cheers,

This is incredible. It's so photo-realistic.

We have frogs here too, but they're often in ponds and such. Rarely on the land parts, where I currently live.
But I do hear that music, and it got something haunting. :D
And yes, it's really sad that a lot of frog races become exctinct these days... humans totally bring nature out of balance with their trash and poison.

As for the picture, it looks amazing! First I thought it was a photomanipulation when I saw the thumbnail. But it's a traditional drawing, oh my God.
I'll put this in my shoutboard for a while. :)
