Artist's Comments

Praying mantises hold a special place in my heart. They are docile, gentle, and ever helpful to the environment…and they are good at surprises. Thus “The Power of Prayer” was created. I enjoy collecting strange bugs and nests that I find, usually the bugs are already dead and the nests are empty. However, one year, a day before my birthday, I got an unexpected treat. A praying mantis nest I collected hatched in my bedroom. Millions of half inch, semi transparent, newborn praying mantises shuffled around my room – and it was a school night and it was already late. My mom and I had to find every single one, even though they were hard to see on the hardwood floor, and gently toss them out of a window onto the bushes below. The hatchlings were so light that they literally floated to the ground! It took about an hour to safely transport the mantises out of my room. Ever since then I have paid more attention to these interesting insects. Their hatching was a birthday gift I am never going to forget. Even if you don't like insects, maybe you can learn to love them as I have.

Guess what! I'm afraid of praying mantises too.
But you managed to make it appear likeable again.

This is a PAINTIG? Omg. I could have swore that it was a photograph. o____o; Darn it looks real!

Mantises are so beautiful insects... even though they are a bit creepy with some of their... customs. ^^; That´s ok though with me, its their business, not mine to judge. Too bad here where I live aren´t any, we have just ordinary grasshoppers. <__< Yeah, I DO like insects... I even have some caterpillars in a jar that I´m trying to keep over a winter and see what kind of butterflies they become. ^^ Can´t stand people who scream and become in killing-frenzy if they see even a little harmless spider at the floor. T_T

 Aww, it's an older painting. Thanks! :D :D :D

I LOVE bugs! Wait, the only exception is parasites...mosquito, ticks, lice...EWWWWWWW! But every other kind I love. :D Aw, you don't have any mantises? That's sad! But they're so cool! I found a tri-colored one a few weeks ago. She died after laying her eggs but that's okay..the circle of life. (I collect bugs...already dead...and hatch worm nests too...hehe.)

Beautifully done!
The colours, the perspective and the anatomy of the praying mantis are all perfect!

Heh...I collect certain dead insects too! Not often, just if they happen to end up petrified & whole. I only have a horse fly & a gorgeous kind of wasp (it still looks like it could suddenly spring to life and sting you). Praying mantises are beautiful too...so interesting...I always spied on them in the bushes when I was little :giggle:

And this is beautiful too...such wonderful shades of green!
